About

the bell hooks Institute

Teach

Her pedagogy, alive: programs, study groups, and resources for classrooms that practice education as freedom.

Remember

Her life and her Kentucky — the stories, the house, and the people who knew her here.

Explore

The collection: first editions, translations, her paintings and art, and an archive open to scholars.

Celebrate

Gatherings in her spirit — the famous and the local at one table, in conversation as equals.

Visit

bell chose Berea

She taught here, wrote here, and made her home here — and she wanted people to come to her beloved Kentucky, sit together, and talk honestly. The Institute keeps that door open.

The house at 300 Center Street holds her books in dozens of languages, her art collection, and the artifacts of a writing life.

Come for an event, or come just to sit with her work.
